About Me
Esra Büyüktahtakιn Toy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at NJIT. Her research involves developing integrated data analytics and risk-averse stochastic mixed-integer programming models and solution algorithms. Her applied research focuses on tackling epidemic diseases in forestry and healthcare, e.g., invasive insects that create havoc on forests, such as the emerald ash borer (EAB) and infectious diseases that ravage the human body, such as the COVID-19, Ebola virus disease, and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Dr. Büyüktahtakιn Toy is the recipient of the 2016 NSF CAREER Award. She has also been awarded various projects by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Forest Service. She has published her research in several top-tier journals, including IISE Transactions, INFORMS Journal on Computing, EJOR, and Annals of Operations Research. Dr. Büyüktahtakın Toy has served the INFORMS Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) in various roles (secretary, vice president, and president) between 2011 and 2015. She also serves as the associate editor for the Springer Nature Operations Research Forum journal.
