About Me
Dr. Kum-Biocca has been a faculty member or scholar at over 10 research campuses or design programs after graduating with an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, UK, and Ph.D. from Sungkyunkwan (Samsung) University. She is an Assistant Professor at School of Art & Design, Digital Design, College of Architecture & Design, New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Associate Director at NJIT M.I.N.D. Lab.
Dr. Kum-Biocca has worked as a Creative Director and UI/UX Designer at leading computer and media companies. Her design experience spans more than 20 years. Most recently, Dr. Kum-Biocca was a lead User Experience Designer at Design Centre, HP (Hewlett- Packard Inc.), HP’s single international design center.
Dr. Kum-Biocca has UI/UX design projects and clients including Hewlett Packard (3D printers, interfaces, and user experience), Google, Amazon, Samsung, Korea Telecom, CJ Media, 2018 Winter Olympics, the Korea president’s election campus, and several other high-tech companies. Her art and design work have been featured in over 25 Solo and Group Exhibitions. Her exhibitions have spanned the globe and been displayed in the USA, England, Singapore, Korea, Australia, and Japan.

Teaching Interests
Dr. Kum-Biocca has received awards for her university teaching. Her teaching experience spans several courses in Design Communication, Digital Media Design, Exhibition Design, Media Art, Interaction Design, AR/ VR Design, and Human-computer Interaction taught at several universities and design schools include NJ Institute of Technology, California State University, Long Beach, Syracuse University and several other international universities in the United States, England, Korea, and Singapore for more than 20 years.

Research Interests
Dr. Kum-Biocca’s research areas include Digital Media, UI/UX Design, AR/VR Design, Human-Robot Interaction, and Human-Computer Interaction. She is the co-author of more than 20 publications: including three books, several research articles, and international presentations (ACM-SIGGRAPH, EuroVR, ICA, etc.).
Dr. Kum-Biocca’s research and design work has been supported by grants or external projects from over 10 funding organizations including the National Research Foundation of Korea, Google, Amazon, NSF i-Corp small grant, NJIT Nomination Microsoft Faculty Award, Seoul Design Foundation, Korea Telecom, Newhouse Endowment, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation, California State University Long Beach and among others.
