About Me
Addison Godel, Ph.D. is an architectural historian, whose research explores 20th century modernist architecture as a component in large urban infrastructural systems. He is currently writing a book on infrastructural architecture in New York City from the Progressive Era to the 1980s. In this research project, he looks closely at the architecture of wholesale food distribution, long-distance telephony, and wastewater treatment, in order to illuminate the contested politics and priorities surrounding the designs of these systems and their impacts on the city’s present-day form.
Dr. Godel received his M.Arch from The Ohio State University in 2009, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2021. He joined HCAD’s faculty as an Assistant Professor in fall 2023, following six years as an Assistant Professor in Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture.
