About Me
I grew up in Lyndhurst, NJ just 6 miles from NJIT. I graduated first in my Lyndhurst HS Class of 1976.
I majored in Chemical Engineering and Graduated in 1981.
My Coop experience at the Bayway Refinery showed me that I was not that interested in plant engineering, but enjoyed the computer to help with my job. I created my first full screen programs to calculate my material balance. I moved to Central Engineering in Florham Park NJ and worked on Refinery Simulation Software and then Database Systems. I moved to the Linden Research Center and Pursued my Masters in Computer Science, graduating in 1988.
I left Exxon in 1988 and started my software development business, Hendela System Consultants. I created a software product called Scanalyzer to help the Y2K program and sold it all around the world.
I finished my Ph.D. in Information sytems in 2016 and became a Professor of Practice. I have now been teaching as a Senior University Lecturer for the Intro to Information Systems, Intro to Web Development, and the Introduction to Database Systems classes.
I am married to Vega Bjorndal Hendela since 1988 and have two sons, Martin, 30, who is a manager at Verizon's HQ and Karl, 26 who is a Data analyst for Wavemaker, the world's largest digital media advertising company.
