Rich Cimino
Senior University Lecturer, Chemical & Materials Engineering
321 C Tiernan Hall (TIER)
About Me
Dr. Cimino came to NJIT from the Experiential Engineering Education Department at Rowan University. He received his Ph.D in Chemical & Biochemical Engineering at Rutgers University, with a concentration in adsorption science and the characterization of porous materials. His research interests include the intersection of engineering ethics and process safety, and broadening inclusivity in engineering, with a focus on the LGBTQ+ community.

Research Interests
Dr. Cimino’s research centers on developing a framework for undergraduate engineering ethics instruction that weaves together aspects of safety, virtue ethics, and personal identity. This platform includes both instructional interventions and assessment strategies, with a focus on ethical decision making.
Some questions that interest him are the following:
How do the ethical perspectives and behaviors of engineering students vary over the course of the curriculum?
How can ethical behavior and decision-making be improved through new teaching methods?
How are implicit and explicit biases manifested in the ethical decision-making processes of engineering students?
How can we improve student moral agency?
