Teaching Interests
Dr. Stanko's teaching is strongly informed by a scientific teaching approach. A few of the key components of her teaching are to incorporate active learning in every course, to emphasize critical reading and writing in science, and to get students in contact with the organisms, environments, and questions they are learning about.

Research Interests
Dr. Stanko is a community ecologist interested broadly in how interactions among species are related to diversity and community stability. Her current research is on communities of plants and pollinators, mostly bees, in old field and urban communities in New Jersey. She is particularly interested in the role of non-native species in the network of interactions between plants and pollinators and in the conservation of native pollinators.
