About Me
Kevin Parmelee is a retired Detective for the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Forensic Laboratory, New Jersey. Kevin designed and implemented the Northeast Crime Scene Institute, which brings practitioners together from across the region for training and consultation. He has over 23years of law enforcement experience that include a variety of policing duties, but primary focus on crime scene investigation, shooting reconstruction, arson investigation, footwear analysis, forensic photography, and latent print analysis. As a police officer and forensic science topic expert, Kevin has testified in municipal and superior court numerous times.

Kevin’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Science (St Francis University, PA), Masters of Public Administration and Human Resources (University of Phoenix), and PhD in Criminal Justice (Capella University). He is certified as a Crime Scene Analyst (IAI), Certified Latent Print Analyst (IAI) and certified in Forensic Photography (IAI). Kevin is also trained in more advanced techniques related to operating in mass fatality scenes and CBRN-TIC related hazardous environments. He is also a former certified police instructor who routinely taught forensic topics to new law enforcement, but more currently focuses on forensic science practitioners and college students. He has been an Adjunct Professor for Forensic Science at Warren County College and Union County College, and more currently teaches as a Professor of Practice at NJIT. Kevin is a member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, International Association of Arson Investigators, International Association of Bloodstain Pattern Analysts, International Association for Identification (IAI), and the New Jersey Division of IAI where he currently serves as President, Regional Representative, and Editor. Kevin has been published in various professional journals/newsletters and has given lectures/presentations to international organizations on various topics related to forensic science across the U.S.
